It’s called “environmental amnesia” and it’s an actual issue environmentalists discuss how to combat. The climate crisis makes it more widespread but it’s been something that’s happening for generations. The story of The Lorax describes it beautifully. The idea that what you remember is what you consider normal, but if the changes happen slowly over generations, you don’t see how large they are because you don’t personally remember them being very different, even if you were told stories about it.

[image: tweet by @/grandmagrit reading,

We never used to have a “fire season”. It was called autumn and we wore sweaters in October. We didn’t have multi year droughts. The lakes were full and snow on the mountain tops. Don’t normalize climate crisis. It’s not normal.

why are people even questioning obesity in america

why is your tea liquidised?

….. Where exactly do you live that the tea isn’t liquid?!?

ENGLAND. WHERE IT IS IN A BAG AND YOU MAKE IT YOURSELF.

image

like what do you do with already liquid tea? Microwave it?

No it’s sweet tea you drink it cold

WHO DRINKS COLD TEA???

HAVE YOU NEVER HAD ICED/SWEET TEA BEFORE?!?

so i reblogged this from a british person and i’ve been laughing at their tags for 600 years

image
image
image
image

England, you stole tea from China.  You’ve had it a mere 4 centuries compared to their 30+.  Don’t play like you’re some kind of authority.

[skeletons ooh-ing]

Shots fired. World War Tea has officially begun.

Englad doesn’t own anything

except that time we owned most of the world

If I stop reblogging this, I’ve gone to the other side.

I have only seen this legendary post in screenshots, so today is a blessed day.

HAH

BOSTON TEA PARTY PART 2

HOLY HELL I FOUND IT

And this is why I love Tumblr

Drinking cold tea is like drinking cold hot chocolate. Sure, you *can* do it, but you *really shouldn’t*

Behold concerned Brit. Chocolate Milk

image

I only see this on pinterest omg….

OMFG

@riverwriter

BEHOLD THE GREATEST TUMBLR POST

“world war tea” is the best play on words i’ve heard in weeks

this post is a wild ride from start to finish

I haven’t seen this since chocolate milk was added. Is that really just an American thing? You’re missing out guys!

😂😂😂

Cold tea

Cold hot chocolate aka chocolate milk

Cold coffee

I mean, do yall even know about cold water or is that an American thing too???

YOU GUYS DRINK COFFEE COLD AS WELL???

Does the rest of the world not use ice cubes? Do y'all not have freezers? What is going on?

Just thought I’d put my 2 cents in this post, it’s iced tea and not sweet tea. Idk what Americans r smoking 💀

I’m relatively new to Tumblr but it seems like sort of a big deal that I found this post so I’m gonna reblog

Imagine not liking iced tea- actually im gonna go drink some now

I don’t even know what to say…

i drink iced tea every day >:)

Iced tea is brilliant but hot tea is nice too

@dazzling-rubabe

Behold concerned Brit

The legend has crossed my dash.

Sometimes Brits forget that a massive portion of America has A LOT OF HEAT. There is no question if you live in the south you need cold drinks, and I know the weather is getting hotter over there too- maybe try the iced tea my good dudes.

UGH is is literally so much to ask that I have time and money to learn how to tailor clothes and embroider and knit and make cakes and bake bread and do makeup and hair and nails and do all my own diy projects around the house and

like I know this is probably so hard to make but my brain says I could do that and I need to do that

btw since this I have been beautifully and painfully trying to learn to cook, crochet, sew, paint etc and oh boy am I mediocre at a bunch of things but I’m having fun

imagine if doorways grew back like scabbed over with fresh drywall and you had to keep carving them back out with a jabsaw to keep the doorway clear etc

Imagine if the membranes recoiled in pain every time you did this. Imagine if over time, some doorways became accustomed sensation. Imagine that very rarely, some even seemed to enjoy it.

I hadn’t realised that Matariki may actually be the first indigenous festival to be made into a public holiday (by a colonial government, I assume that means) in the world. I’m watching a discussion at work about the ceremonies associated with the occasion, and hearing that last year’s national hautapu ceremony was watched by more people than live in Aotearoa! - because indigenous people around the world, on other continents, watched with interest and solidarity with Māori. That’s cool - I hope it becomes a great example other peoples can point to.

mousetaur:

For the first time ever, New Zealand is celebrating Matariki as a Public Holiday!

It’s so exciting and wonderful, in my opinion

Matariki is both the name of a star cluster (also known as Pleiades or the seven sisters) and of the celebration of it first rising in the sky. It marks the start of the New Year in the Māori lunar calender.

It is a time of coming together, reflecting, and as with all big human holidays, sharing kai (food). I’m really happy our government has decided to finally officially recognise this major holiday of our mana whenua.

The following is from Te Papa’s website about Matariki

Matariki is the star that signifies reflection, hope, our connection to the environment, and the gathering of people. Matariki is also connected to the health and wellbeing of people.

Waitī is associated with all fresh water bodies and the food sources that are sustained by those waters.

Waitā is associated with the ocean, and food sources within it.

Waipuna-ā-rangi is associated with the rain.

Tupuānuku is the star associated with everything that grows within the soil to be harvested or gathered for food.

Tupuārangi is associated with everything that grows up in the trees: fruits, berries, and birds.

Ururangi is the star associated with the winds.

Pōhutukawa is the star associated with those that have passed on.

Hiwa-i-te-rangi is the star associated with granting our wishes, and realising our aspirations for the coming year

Mānawatia a Matariki!

do baby aspecs still know about the turtle metaphor

To every new aspec (including questioning people):

You need to see it

It’s one of the best aspec things I’ve ever seen and it gives me so much comfort even to this day

If you don’t know what we’re talking about:

Here’s the original turtle metaphor post

And here it is as a cute comic version (undescribed)

Now seriously if you don’t know it, take a look at it
